Dream Destination

The 2023 edition of the WTA (World Travel Awards) has come to an end, leaving our country with four extraordinary awards. During the last week of August, the results were published and Peru ended up being the leading destination, winning in the categories Leading Destination in South America, Leading Cultural Destination and Leading Cultural Destination in the Region. Among the previous category nominees we could find Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay. Last year, Chile was the winner, but this year Peru stole the first place.

The main tourist attractions include the Historic Center of Lima, with the Plaza de Armas, the Lima Cathedral, the National Museum of Anthropology and Archeology, among others. In addition, we have the streets of Miraflores and the Larcomar shopping center, chosen as “one of the favorite places for sightseeing and shopping”.

Besides the previously mentioned awards, Peru was chosen as the Leader Culinary Destination, an award given to countries with an outstanding cuisine and Machu Picchu won the Best Attraction in South America Award, which was also given to the World Wonder in 2022.

Back to Peru’s Gastronomy, it’s worth mentioning that the received recognition highlights Peru’s ability to offer a unique experience in regards to food, celebrating national identity and our very rich heritage, never setting aside contemporary creativity. It is also important to mention that Lima is standing out with the world’s best restaurant, Central.

This is the sixth year Peru has achieved important recognitions for the Machu Picchu Sanctuary and the first time it has won as a Leading Destination in South America. For instance, Peru has won awards several times, for example, we have the case of the year 2021 in which it achieved three different awards.

The international recognition of Peruvian culinary culture and recognition as the ideal destination to visit in South America, with awards such as the WTA and The World's 50 Best Restaurants, underlines its global excellence. The selection of the Central restaurant as the best in the world is a testament to the richness and quality of the gastronomic experience in Peru. The diversity, history and use of local ingredients continue to amaze international diners, cementing Peru's position as a world-renowned culinary destination.

Finally, it is important to emphasize that The World Travel Awards is an organization that recognizes, rewards, and celebrates excellence in all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. Awards are given to travel, tourism, and hospitality brands and products that excel in their respective categories. This kind of recognition will bring the attention of new customers and will increase tourism. For these reasons, The World Travel Awards have played a vital role in recognizing and supporting efforts for projects and initiatives that prioritize environmental conservation, community engagement, and ethical tourism.
