Tech Titans Triumph

Peruvian Excellence Takes Center Stage! Students from the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) and the National University of Engineering (UNI) shine in the global final of the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023, held in Shenzhen, China. The San Marcos team secured the first place in the Network Track category, while UNI students claimed the second prize in the Cloud Track.

The Huawei ICT Competition aims to provide a platform for university students worldwide to compete and communicate in the field of ICT. By the end of 2022, Huawei has collaborated with 2,200 universities to establish ICT academies, contributing to the training of over 200,000 students annually.

San Marcos Achievement

San Marcos students Camila Galván Salvador, Steven Zacarías Marcelo, and Jhonny Chauca Prinque, along with Professor Nilo Carrasco Oré, were honored by the National University of San Marcos and Huawei Peru after securing the first place at the local, regional, and global levels among more than 150,000 students worldwide.

In the ICT Competition, students had a platform to showcase their global ICT skills, enhancing their ability to innovate using new technologies.

This Peruvian team progressed from the national stage in November 2022, regional stage in March 2023, and finally reached the global final in May, competing against teams from all five continents. Alongside the Peruvian team, teams from Kenya, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa were also recognized.

Zhilong Liu, Vice President of Public Relations at Huawei Peru, stated, 'We aim to nurture young ICT talents to contribute to the technological development of the country. We hope that more young students from the National University of San Marcos participate in our programs and competitions.'

Jeri Ramón Ruffner, Rector of the National University of San Marcos, expressed, 'We are delighted to collaborate with Huawei, benefiting our young students in their professional development.'

As part of the recognition ceremony for the students and professor, Huawei brought the Digital Truck to the University City. The Digital Truck is equipped with technological tools for learning activities, with the goal of bringing technology to vulnerable areas of the country.

After honoring the students, university authorities conducted a protocol visit to the Digital Truck, led by Rector Ramón Ruffner, vice-rectors, and deans from various faculties. They learned about the benefits of the Cultivate Digital Talent Program, a social responsibility educational program aimed at students and teachers to promote technology education, reduce the digital divide, and enhance local talent competitiveness.

During the tour, explanations were provided about programs such as Seeds for the Future, Huawei Academy, ICT Competition, Open Cloud, and the ICT Talent Job Fair.

San Marcos students had the opportunity to explore the Digital Truck and learn about the activities that Huawei conducts with different universities.

Days ago, Huawei awarded San Marcos the title of Best ITC Academy 2022 at the Huawei Peru ICT Ecosystem Summit 2023. The National University of San Marcos has a partnership with Huawei and is part of the Cultivate Digital Talent program.

We plan to build a total of 7,000 Huawei ICT academies by 2026, training over 1 million students each year, significantly improving literacy and digital skills for students in a more dynamic and inclusive digital world.'

The presence of women in the competition was also acknowledged. Vicky Zhang, Vice President of the Corporate Communications Department at Huawei, stated that the company has established the Women in Technology Award to encourage female participants, promote gender equality in the ICT industry, and foster social inclusion.
